Welcome Tayside Historical Tours

Welcome to Tayside Historical Tours website.  We are the longest established group organising guided tours in the Dundee area and the only group that is actually based in the city.  It is the aim of this website to highlight one of the most beautiful areas in Scotland . The website will focus on some of the outstanding historical monuments of the region including hillforts, castles, ecclesiastical sites and houses. And, we will also explain the sometimes romantic and grisly stories that underpin the history of these monuments.

Tayside Historical Tours The lead tour guide of Tayside Historical Tours, Anthony Cox holds a Ph.D in hsitory from the University of Cambridge and is a former History Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge.  He has been actively involved in researching the social history of nineteenth and twentieth century Dundee for the past few years and has spent the last nine months completing a manuscript for publication examining how the city's social development was affected by its close relationship with the Calcutta jute industry.  He was also involved in the BBC production 'Brian Cox's Jute Journeys' as a historical consultant and will be regularly keeping visitors to this site informed of latest developments with Tayside Historical Tours and more general issues associated with the history of Dundee through a regular blog.  We hope you will take the opportunity to benefit from his wide experience of and passion for the history of Dundee and its surrounding area.

The guided walks around Dundee city centre are designed to reveal the history of the city of Discovery by looking at a hidden Dundee, which lies sometimes only a few feet behind the modern façade of the city centre. In this way, the colourful and sometimes bloody history of Dundee will be revealed and explained.
