2008 marks the bicentenary of the death of George Mealmaker, the weaver and radical leader who was sentenced to transportation to Botany Bay in 1798. The event will celebrate the life and work of this all but forgotten figure in Dundee 's political history and will focus on Mealmaker's contribution to the town's reputation as a centre of radical politics in the 1790s and his continuing legacy.
